One Third Of Prostitutes in India are children
under 14 years old account for more than 30 percent of an estimated 900,000 prostitutes in India, according to a national survey conducted by the Center of Concern For Child Labor (CCFCL)
While procurers used to push girls to the profession at the age of 13 or 14 a decade ago, "now the entry age has come down to 11 or 12,"
CCFCL began the study on child prostitution which is now an industry worth 11 billion rupees ($260 million) as child prostitution constitutes another form of child labor under the new convention adopted by the International Labor Organization.
More children are in the profession than generally estimated due to a growing demand generated by consumerist lifestyles.
